Donald Trump’s recent campaign against Harvard University has been making headlines. The President has threatened to revoke $3 billion in grants from the prestigious university, citing concerns about some of its foreign students being “radicalized lunatics.” In a fiery post on his Truth Social platform, Trump suggested redirecting the funds to trade schools in the US, calling it a wise investment for the country.

This is just the latest in a series of attacks on Harvard by the Trump administration. Since taking office, Trump has frozen over $2.2 billion in federal funding for grants at the university, threatened to revoke its tax-exempt status, and called for investigations into foreign gifts and donations. The tensions have escalated to a point where Harvard has even filed a lawsuit in response.

The President’s criticism of Harvard is part of a broader crackdown on higher education institutions in the US. Over 60 universities are currently under investigation for alleged failures to address antisemitism, and there have been calls in Congress to increase taxes on wealthy universities’ endowments. These actions have prompted widespread cost-cutting measures across the sector.

Despite the administration’s efforts to restrict international students at Harvard, a judge in Boston recently blocked the government’s attempt to bar them from enrolling. Harvard’s president, Alan Garber, has denounced the move as “unlawful and unwarranted,” emphasizing the university’s compliance with legal requirements.

The standoff between the Trump administration and universities has raised concerns about the future of research funding and the ability to attract international students. Many academics are considering opportunities at universities abroad, as uncertainty looms over the US higher education sector.

In the midst of these challenges, the White House Watch newsletter provides valuable insights into the impact of Trump’s policies on various sectors. Stay ahead of the curve by unlocking this exclusive newsletter for free today.
