Pamela Hemphill, a self-proclaimed “ex-MAGA Granny” who was convicted for her involvement in the deadly Jan. 6, 2021 attack, recently revealed that she turned down a pardon from President Donald Trump because she did not want to be part of his “narrative.”

During an interview with CNN’s Pamela Brown, Hemphill criticized Trump’s claims of a “weaponization” of the Justice Department and highlighted how other convicted rioters have falsely alleged they were denied due process.

Hemphill, who served two months in federal prison and is currently on probation for her role in the riot, emphasized that she had received due process and accepted responsibility for her actions. She was among the 1,500 people pardoned by the president on his first day in office for their involvement in the attack.

She distanced herself from her previous “MAGA” label and previously called out Trump for exploiting her cancer battle in a post on Truth Social in 2023.

When asked about her change in perspective since the insurrection, Hemphill mentioned how she observed individuals in a Jan. 6 group on X (formerly Twitter) portraying themselves as victims and using misinformation to manipulate her. This led her to start her own group where she discovered several false claims.

Hemphill admitted that she never realized a president could become a cult leader until she read cult expert Steven Hassan’s book on Trump in 2019, which made her realize she was in a cult.

She emphasized the importance of being truthful and pushing back against Trump, stating that she had nothing to lose by being honest and standing up against falsehoods. She firmly stated that she would not compromise her integrity by accepting a pardon from Trump, as it would go against her values and principles. text in a simpler form:
