For years, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has had his sights set on Iran’s nuclear ambitions, contemplating military action across multiple U.S. presidential administrations. When he confided in his friend Donald Trump about his plans to strike Iran, Trump advised against it, citing ongoing negotiations for a nuclear deal with Tehran.

However, in a display of blatant disregard for diplomatic counsel—something that seems to be a hallmark of Netanyahu’s strategy—he ignored Trump’s plea and proceeded with the attack.

Iran, predictably, retaliated.

According to Iran’s UN Ambassador, the Israeli offensive resulted in the deaths of 78 individuals and left 320 injured. In response, Israel reported 34 casualties from Iran’s missile strikes on its territory.

The White House, perhaps realizing the gravity of the situation, released a photo of Trump in the West Wing, but it was hardly a picture of leadership:

Trump appears visibly taken aback, perhaps lost in thought—or simply lost. He wasn’t in the Situation Room receiving critical updates or working to de-escalate tensions; instead, he seems to be in a state of bewilderment, potentially having wandered into the wrong meeting.

It’s worth noting that the U.S. once had a president who was widely regarded as having a strong command of foreign policy. Yet, mainstream media narratives have deemed Joe Biden “too old,” suggesting that the country would fare better with a leader who looks as if he’s been propped up like a mannequin in a doorway.

The Trump administration did reportedly assist Israel in intercepting some of the missiles launched by Iran, but one must wonder: What good is military support if the leader of the free world stands idle while the geopolitical landscape ignites?

A robust leader wouldn’t be caught off-guard while chaos reigns in the Middle East. A competent leader wouldn’t be disregarded by a close ally. A true leader wouldn’t feel the need to splurge millions on a military parade for a birthday celebration while crises unfold.

As tensions flare and the Middle East seems to be ablaze, the only action Trump appears to be capable of is standing by, looking stunned.
