Trump Extends Decision on TikTok Fate by 90 Days

The fate of TikTok in the United States will be further delayed as President Donald Trump is set to issue another extension, pushing the decision by 90 days, the White House announced on Tuesday. The current extension, which was signed in April, was scheduled to expire on Thursday, June 19.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stated in a statement to CBS News that President Trump will be signing an additional Executive Order this week to ensure TikTok remains operational. Trump has consistently expressed his desire to keep TikTok running in the country. This 90-day extension will allow the Administration to work towards finalizing a deal that guarantees the safety and security of American users’ data.

Earlier this year, the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the decision to ban TikTok, leading to app stores and service providers discontinuing their support for the app in the U.S. Shortly after assuming office, President Trump signed an executive order to postpone the ban in order to explore a potential deal with Bytedance to sell its U.S. operations. Subsequently, on April 4, he granted a 75-day extension to keep the popular short video platform accessible to users.
