If Obama Had a Son — Or Maybe Not

Michelle Obama recently made waves with another pointed remark aimed at her husband, Barack Obama. During a podcast episode this week, she expressed relief at not having a son, humorously suggesting that he would have turned out just like his father.

“Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama,” Michelle quipped, eliciting laughter from her audience.

The Hill reported:

In a candid moment on her “IMO” podcast, Michelle Obama shared her sentiments about motherhood and societal norms surrounding masculinity. While conversing with her brother, Craig Robinson, and radio host Angie Martinez, Michelle noted, “I’m so glad I didn’t have a boy.”

Martinez, with a chuckle, asked, “Why didn’t you throw in a third?” to which Michelle replied, “Because he would’ve been a Barack Obama,” prompting laughter from the group.

“Baby Barack — it would’ve been amazing!” Martinez chimed in, adding to the light-hearted exchange.

This playful jab isn’t an isolated incident; Michelle has made similar comments in the context of ongoing divorce rumors. Earlier this year, she criticized Barack for his past irresponsibility when discussing financial stability in relationships.

When asked by Craig Robinson if financial stability would affect her attraction to a partner, Michelle retorted, “Uh, I married one,” implying her husband’s past financial struggles. This comment sparked a flurry of online reactions, with some questioning its validity, given Barack’s credentials as a Harvard Law graduate and civil rights attorney at the time of their marriage in 1992.

In a recent address at Hamilton College, Barack Obama himself acknowledged the strains that two terms in the White House had placed on their marriage, stating he is “trying to dig himself out of a hole.” This candid admission reflects the complexities and pressures of public life and personal relationships, particularly for a couple that has been in the spotlight for decades.
