Emerging insights are shedding light on the Trump administration’s often murky rationale behind its military actions against Iran, particularly the recent bombings that were cloaked in a veil of secrecy.

The New York Times has reported that Trump’s focus was less on national security and more on how the Israeli strikes against Iran were being received on Fox News:

In conversations with his advisors, he expressed admiration for what he deemed a “brilliant” military operation by Israel that successfully targeted significant Iranian military leaders and strategic weapon sites. Trump was seen on his cellphone, taking calls from reporters, enthusiastically labeling the strikes as “excellent” and “very successful,” while subtly suggesting his involvement was more substantial than publicly acknowledged.

Later that same day, Trump inquired of an ally about the public response to the Israeli strikes. He relayed that “everyone” was urging him to escalate U.S. involvement, even suggesting the use of 30,000-pound GBU-57 bombs against Fordo, the heavily fortified Iranian uranium-enrichment facility hidden beneath a mountain south of Tehran.

…

The president’s attention was glued to Fox News, which was broadcasting extensive praise for Israel’s military operation and hosting guests who advocated for greater U.S. involvement. Several advisors expressed concern that the absence of Tucker Carlson on Fox meant Trump was not exposed to dissenting viewpoints.

While it’s evident that the media narrative influenced Trump’s decision-making, the question remains: What about the intelligence that supposedly indicated Iran’s imminent nuclear capabilities?

Rolling Stone has disclosed that Trump lacked any credible intelligence:

“There is no intel,” stated one official who preferred to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of the matter. “To my knowledge, there’s nothing new… The president is acting in defense of the United States and our interests, but the intelligence assessments have not changed from prior evaluations.”

…

Within government corridors, senior officials and policymakers are not pretending that Trump’s assertions of an imminent nuclear threat are grounded in anything beyond speculative vibes, whether intentionally fabricated or otherwise.

It appears that Trump’s military action against Iran was less about concrete evidence and more about the perception it would create, possibly as a desperate attempt to revitalize his waning presidency. The timing of these bombings is particularly noteworthy, coinciding with the fallout from his failed immigration raids in Los Angeles.

Ultimately, Trump’s decision to strike Iran raises critical questions about the absence of supporting intelligence or evidence. It seems clear that this was a choice made amid a chaotic political landscape, potentially extinguishing whatever remaining embers of his presidency still glowed.

What are your thoughts on the underlying motivations behind Trump’s decision to bomb Iran? We invite you to share your opinions in the comments below.
