House Approves Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill”

In a notable political maneuver, the House has passed President Trump’s much-debated “Big, Beautiful Bill,” sending the legislation directly to his desk for approval. The final tally was a narrow 218-214, with only two Republican representatives daring to dissent.

The rebel duo, Thomas Massie from Kentucky and Brian Fitzpatrick from Pennsylvania, may find themselves in politically perilous waters following this vote.

Filibuster Follies

The voting process faced delays this morning when House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries engaged in an epic filibuster that lasted over eight hours. His endurance was spent reading letters from concerned constituents and launching scathing critiques at Republican supporters of the bill, accusing them of various moral failings, including being un-Christian.

Jeffries began his oratory at 5:53 AM ET and concluded at 1:37 PM ET, marking a record-breaking speech that spanned eight hours and 44 minutes. This feat surpassed the previous record held by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy, who spoke for 8 hours and 32 minutes in November 2021.

Interestingly, the length of Jeffries’s speech had such a soporific effect that it apparently lulled even some of his fellow party members to sleep.

LMAO! Even DEMOCRATS are tired of Hakeem Jeffries droning on and on about nothing

They’re now SLEEPING behind him as he speaks.

Today’s triumph for the GOP and Trump came after a protracted session where the House advanced the bill from an initial vote of 219-213. Speaker Mike Johnson had firmly committed to keeping the vote open until the opposition was thoroughly exhausted. The rule permitting the final vote passed shortly before 3:30 A.M.

However, the path to victory was riddled with drama as the legislation initially appeared to be on the verge of failure, facing five Republican dissenters and eight members who abstained from voting. Yet, through strategic persuasion from President Trump and Speaker Johnson, all but one of the dissenting votes turned in favor, with the remaining holdout, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, exiting the floor shortly after casting his vote.
