The Newest Show on Disney+ Brings Daily News Updates

The latest addition to Disney+ promises to deliver more surprising plot twists than any Marvel movie and introduce more quirky characters than the latest “Star Wars” series. What is this new show? The news.

ABC News is launching its first original daily program exclusively for Disney+ subscribers. Starting each weekday at 6 a.m., viewers can tune in to “What You Need to Know,” a quick 8-to-10-minute recap of the day’s headlines. James Longman and Rachel Scott will be the anchors, providing updates from both domestic and international locations. The show debuts on July 21.

According to Almin Karamehmedovic, president of ABC News, the show will be the first thing viewers see on Disney+ when they wake up. Each episode will be available on demand for 24 hours before a new report refreshes the content.

While other ABC News programs are already accessible to streaming subscribers, “What You Need to Know” aims to cater to audiences who want quick and concise updates on current events. The show is part of Disney’s effort to expand the range of content available on Disney+ and attract a broader audience.

As Disney looks to enhance its streaming services, upcoming developments include the launch of a new ESPN service and full control of Hulu. The acquisition of Hulu, in particular, will further strengthen Disney’s position in the streaming market.

Unlike traditional news programs, “What You Need to Know” will feature Longman and Scott reporting from various locations rather than a studio. This approach allows them to provide real-time updates and unique insights into global events.

With a focus on reaching new audiences and delivering news in a digestible format, ABC News hopes to engage viewers in conversations about current events. By adapting to the changing media landscape, the network aims to stay relevant and attract younger audiences who consume news primarily through streaming platforms.

As other news outlets explore new formats and platforms, ABC News is experimenting with different concepts to connect with viewers. The launch of “What You Need to Know” reflects a broader industry trend towards digital innovation and audience engagement.

As TV news faces challenges in the streaming era, networks are adapting their strategies to retain viewers and remain competitive. By embracing new media trends and evolving content delivery, ABC News aims to stay ahead of the curve and continue delivering quality journalism to its audience.

With the launch of “What You Need to Know,” ABC News is taking a bold step towards expanding its digital presence and engaging with a new generation of news consumers. The show’s innovative format and focus on delivering timely updates make it a valuable addition to the Disney+ lineup.
