Jonathon Porritt, a renowned environmental campaigner, has collaborated with young protestors from Just Stop Oil to create a book aimed at changing the minds of the “sceptical and uncommitted.” Porritt’s goal is to challenge the negative portrayals of JSO campaigners in the media and give them a platform to share their voices, fears, and aspirations.

Just Stop Oil suspended their active campaigning in March 2025 due to their frustration with politicians’ failure to heed scientific warnings about climate change. The book, titled “Love, Anger and Betrayal: Just Stop Oil’s Young Climate Campaigners,” delves into the motivations behind their decision to engage in civil disobedience.

Scheduled for release on 24 July, the book seeks to reach a wider audience beyond those already concerned about climate issues. Porritt encourages readers to purchase two copies directly from him, with the offer of receiving a third copy for free to share with friends, colleagues, and family members who may need convincing.

In a statement, Porritt emphasizes the importance of reaching sceptical and uncommitted individuals to make a meaningful impact on the climate movement. He sees this as a critical juncture for climate activism in the UK and believes that “Love, Anger & Betrayal” can play a significant role in inspiring change.

Jonathon Porritt is a prominent figure in the sustainability field, serving as the co-Founder of Forum for the Future, director of Friends of the Earth, and co-chair of the Green Party.

As for the author of this piece, Catherine Early is a respected environmental journalist and the chief reporter for The Ecologist. Her work can be found on Bluesky @catearly.bsky.social.

The book’s release and Porritt’s call to action signal a new chapter in the fight against climate change, one that aims to bridge the gap between different perspectives and ignite meaningful change.
