Angel Carter recently opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her sister Bobbie Jean in the new Paramount+ documentary, “The Carters: Hurts to Love You.” Directed by former child star Soleil Moon Frye, the two-part documentary delves into the struggles and pain faced by the Carter family following the deaths of their siblings.

In the documentary, Angel revealed that Bobbie Jean was “too far gone” to save from her battle with addiction. Angel’s husband, Corey Conrad, shared how Angel held onto hope that Bobbie could overcome her struggles before facing yet another tragedy after the death of their brother, Aaron Carter, at the age of 34.

Corey recalled, “After Aaron passed, Angel thought, ‘Maybe this is a wake-up call for BJ,’ because BJ had struggled with addiction and sobriety for many, many, many years.” Angel admitted that she was unaware of the severity of Bobbie’s addiction, as she was adept at hiding it since the age of 13.

Following Bobbie’s unexpected passing, Angel paid a heartfelt tribute to her sister on social media. She shared childhood photos of Bobbie and reminisced about their close bond. Angel expressed her sorrow over the hardships Bobbie faced in life and emphasized the importance of addressing mental health issues and breaking down stigmas surrounding addiction.

In her tribute, Angel wrote, “We all need to break down barriers, reduce stigmas, and cultivate a society where seeking mental health support is met with understanding and encouragement. This starts with our children, and creating healthy conversation within the home.”

The Carters’ story of loss, grief, and resilience shines a light on the devastating impact of addiction and mental health struggles within families. Through their documentary, Angel and her family hope to raise awareness and promote open dialogue about these issues, encouraging others to seek help and support when needed.
