California Governor Newsom’s Tension with Trump Amid Los Angeles Unrest
In a dramatic escalation of words, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) has vocally criticized President Trump and Border Czar Tom Homan in the wake of violent protests against ICE operations in downtown Los Angeles.
Newsom’s ire stems from ICE agents conducting raids on several businesses in LA, leading to the arrests of undocumented immigrants. The Governor’s frustration was palpable as he condemned the Trump Administration’s recent actions.
I have officially requested that the Trump Administration withdraw their unlawful deployment of troops in Los Angeles County and return them to my command. We didn’t have an issue until Trump intervened. This constitutes a serious breach of state sovereignty—one that only inflames tensions while… pic.twitter.com/SYIy81SZdH

While protests were under control thanks to @LAPDHQ, President Trump is exacerbating the situation by threatening to send approximately 500 active-duty Marines to the streets of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles: Stay peaceful. Don’t fall into the trap that extremists wish for.

Following a series of critical posts on X (formerly Twitter), Newsom brazenly challenged Tom Homan to arrest him during a media interview at LAPD headquarters. This bold move came in the context of violent protests that Newsom, alongside LAPD officials, characterized as peaceful, despite reports of rioters setting fires and attacking law enforcement.

During his tense interview at LAPD headquarters, a visibly anxious Newsom placed blame squarely on the Trump Administration for the unrest. He repeatedly referred to the rioters as “protesting peacefully,” even as footage of flames and chaos played in the background. Newsom argued that the undocumented individuals involved were merely attempting to lead normal lives and contribute to society.
“Tom, arrest me, let’s get this over with, tough guy,” he taunted Homan, demonstrating a blend of defiance and desperation.
