“Saturday Night Live” has humorously addressed the hit series “The Hunting Wives” and hinted at a second season for the Netflix show.

In a pre-recorded segment, host Amy Poehler and guest Aubrey Plaza satirized the popular streaming show, alongside society’s responses to it. (During a moment where Poehler playfully interacted with Chloe Fineman, the narrator remarked that People magazine described “The Hunting Wives” as “like ‘Call Me By Your Name’ for women who shop at Bass Pro Shop.”) The skit portrayed what “SNL” calls a “straight but lesbian horny Republican murder drama” starting its imagined second season with Poehler, parodying Malin Akerman’s character, dramatically revealing, “Look what the cat dragged in.”

While “SNL” delivered the spoof with affection, it also provided some critique: The narrator pointed out the “wigs that are trying their best,” as Poehler’s wig shifted during a romantic scene with Fineman. A moment where Fineman and Poehler, along with others, brandish firearms felt particularly vivid and impactful.

Plaza, known for her role alongside Poehler in “Parks and Recreation,” participated in the sketch as a newcomer to the hunting wives group, having relocated from California. Although the hunting wives initially fawn over her, the script took a turn when they learned of her lesbian identity, leading to a sharp, final punchline that highlighted their disconnection.
