Chicago police are currently investigating a tragic incident after a newborn baby was discovered inside a freezer in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. The details surrounding this heartbreaking discovery are conflicting, with information provided by the Chicago Police Department (CPD) differing from that of the medical examiner’s office and a law enforcement source.

According to CPD, the infant was found unresponsive in an apartment building on the 4700 block of South Damen around midnight on Tuesday. The child was rushed to Stroger Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Area One Detectives are now actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident as part of a Death Investigation. At this time, no further details have been released by the authorities.

However, dispatch records tell a slightly different story. Stroger Hospital staff reportedly called the police to the facility at 7:20 p.m. on Monday evening, leading investigators to obtain permission to search an apartment in the same block later that night. The timeline of events suggests that the tragic discovery may have occurred earlier than initially reported.

The medical examiner’s office has identified the child as “Baby Flores,” although the sex and age of the baby have not been disclosed. The time of death was recorded as 10:45 p.m., raising questions about whether the child was born prematurely. The exact circumstances surrounding the infant’s death remain unclear as investigations continue.

CWBChicago, a trusted source for public safety reporting in the Chicago area, was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who sought to provide accurate and detailed information to the community. Since its inception, CWBChicago has expanded its coverage to include neighborhoods such as Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, and Uptown while maintaining its commitment to delivering comprehensive news coverage.
