A 17-year-old boy and a 14-year-old accomplice were involved in a series of violent carjackings across Chicago’s North Side, which culminated in the tragic murder of 25-year-old Michal Ciskal in Fuller Park. While the younger boy’s case is being handled in juvenile court, 17-year-old Dajon Meeks is facing adult charges and shocking details about the crimes have emerged during his recent detention hearing.

The crime spree began with the two boys carrying out armed hijackings in Lakeview, North Center, and Lincoln Park. Surveillance footage from a CHA building where they lived captured the 14-year-old climbing out of an apartment window before Meeks was seen running to a stolen Kia Optima. They then proceeded to carjack multiple victims, including a woman on her way to work and a man driving his wife to the hospital.

The fatal encounter occurred at a gas station in the 5400 block of South Wells, where Ciskal was shot by the 14-year-old while attempting to defend himself. Despite the efforts of a passerby to perform CPR, Ciskal succumbed to his injuries. The boys continued their crime spree, attempting to carjack a couple in Lincoln Park before crashing the stolen vehicle near their apartment complex.

During a search of Meeks’ home, authorities discovered a handgun and clothing worn by one of the offenders at the murder scene. Lab tests later confirmed a connection between the weapon and the crimes committed. Additionally, DNA evidence linked Meeks to the vehicles used in the spree.

Meeks now faces three counts of murder as an adult, with potential additional charges in juvenile court due to his probation for previous carjacking offenses. Judge Shauna Boliker has ordered him to remain in custody pending trial.

The heinous nature of these crimes serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence in our communities. It is crucial for law enforcement and the justice system to hold perpetrators accountable and seek justice for the victims and their families.
