A Piano Teacher in California Accused of Sexually Abusing a 13-Year-Old Student

A California piano teacher, Hovanes John Jihanyan, 41, has been arrested and charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child, among other felonies, for allegedly abusing his 13-year-old student over a three-month period. The incidents took place at various locations, including the educator’s home, car, and office, as well as at the French Conservatory of Music in Beverly Hills, where he teaches.

The victim, who turned 14 during the time of the alleged abuse, reported the incidents to authorities. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is handling the case and has expressed its commitment to seeking justice for the victim and their family.

According to prosecutors, Jihanyan was charged with six felony counts related to the abuse, including forcible copulation, sexual penetration, unlawful intercourse, sodomy, and lewd acts with a minor. He is currently being held on $1 million bail at Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles.

If convicted, Jihanyan faces up to 29 years in state prison and will be required to register as a sex offender for life. Additional victims are believed to exist, and the investigation is ongoing.

The Santa Monica Police Department launched an investigation after receiving a report of the abuse. Jihanyan was arrested in Encino following the execution of a search warrant.

The accused individual is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 15, 2025, at the Airport Courthouse. Prosecutors are urging anyone with information about the case to come forward to ensure that justice is served.
