Lang Fisher: We wanted to show that life is unpredictable and that even in the midst of tragedy, there can be moments of growth and connection. By killing off Nick, we were able to explore how the group copes with loss and how it ultimately brings them closer together. It was a bold choice, but we felt it was necessary to fully explore the themes of friendship, love, and resilience that are at the core of the show.

Fey: It was definitely a difficult decision to make, but we felt it was important to challenge our characters and our audience. It’s a reminder that life is fragile and that we should cherish the time we have with our loved ones. Plus, it opens up new possibilities for the characters and their relationships moving forward.

As for the original movie coming to Netflix, Fey, Fisher, and Wigfield expressed their excitement at introducing a new generation to the classic film. They hope that viewers will enjoy both the movie and the series, seeing how they complement each other while also standing on their own. With the success of the first season, fans are eagerly awaiting news of a potential second season and what new adventures await the group of friends in “The Four Seasons.”

Looking back on the decisions made during the creation of the hit show “The Four Seasons,” the creators are now expressing regret over some of the choices they made. One of the biggest regrets is the decision to kill off the character Nick, played by Steve Carell. When asked if they decided to kill off Nick before casting Carell or after, the creators revealed that they had the storyline planned out before approaching Carell for the role.

The show also explores the complex relationship between Anne and Ginny, especially in the finale where they come together in grief. The creators express interest in further exploring their dynamic in a potential second season, delving deeper into Anne’s journey after her divorce.

One of the themes explored in the show is the changing definition of family in modern times. The creators wanted to portray the complexities of relationships, especially when close friends go through a divorce. They aimed to show the nuances of these situations, reflecting real-life experiences.

As the characters in the show are portrayed as older than in the original movie, the creators reflect on the cultural shift and the challenges of starting a family later in life. They highlight the exhaustion that comes with parenting at an older age, drawing from their own experiences as new parents.

Despite the regrets and challenges faced during the creation of the show, the creators also highlight some key moments from the original movie that they were determined to include in the adaptation. From humorous scenes to heartfelt moments, they aimed to capture the essence of the original film while adding their own twist to the story.

As they continue to navigate the world of “The Four Seasons,” the creators are learning from their mistakes and looking forward to exploring new storylines and character dynamics in future seasons. While there may be regrets along the way, the journey of creating a hit show is always filled with ups and downs, ultimately leading to a richer and more engaging viewing experience for audiences.

It’s one of those weird moments that are so lovely about being married to someone for a long time. The familiarity, the inside jokes, the shared experiences that only the two of you understand. It’s a special kind of bond that only grows stronger with time.

One of those moments that stands out is the ice scene, where the men are injured and they’re getting ice for themselves, and Ginny comes out. It’s a small moment, but it speaks volumes about the dynamics of the group. Colman and Will’s characters bring a fresh perspective to the scene, with Colman being gay and not sexually leering at Ginny, but rather sharing a wish for a naive partner who would do whatever they say.

The evolution of Danny and Claudia into Danny and Claude is another highlight. The decision to make one of the couples gay reflects real-life friend groups and adds depth to the characters. Colman was the perfect fit for the role, bringing humor and style to the character of Claude. The relationship between Danny and Claude is portrayed with nuance and warmth, showcasing the importance of having a supportive partner.

The friendship between Danny and Kate is also a standout. Their close bond, formed since college, adds a layer of intimacy to the group dynamic. Kate’s unrequited feelings for Danny and the complexities of their friendship add depth to their interactions. The show emphasizes the importance of having a close friend group to lean on through life’s ups and downs.

The show also delves into the toxic aspects of relationships, with Kate’s feelings for Danny causing tension with Jack. The characters’ flaws and insecurities are laid bare, highlighting the complexities of human relationships. The dynamics between the characters are complex and nuanced, adding depth to the story.

Nick’s daughter Lila’s play is a standout moment, showcasing her anger and frustration about her parents’ divorce. The scene is raw and emotional, highlighting the impact of family dynamics on children. It’s a powerful moment that adds depth to the show’s exploration of relationships and family dynamics.

Overall, the show’s focus on relationships, friendships, and the complexities of human emotions make it a compelling watch. The characters’ interactions are relatable and authentic, capturing the essence of long-term relationships and the ups and downs that come with them. It’s a show that celebrates the weird, lovely moments that make being married to someone for a long time so special.

Fey: It was a real treat when he agreed to do it. We were so honored. I mean, I can’t believe he agreed to do it. I think he was delighted to be there. He was so funny. And it was like when you get to do a scene with someone who’s so funny, you just try not to laugh in their face. We were all just like, “This is delightful.”

Wigfield: It was so fun. I remember sitting there watching it and being like, “I cannot believe we’re all sitting here while Alan Alda does a speech.” It was really cool.

Fey: And he was so nice. He was like, “Do you want me to do it again?” And we were like, “Oh no, you’re perfect.”

There’s a joke about how Anne and Nick met in a Zoom breakout room, which is very 2025. How did you decide to set the show in the pandemic?

Fey: We started it in the pandemic on purpose, because it added a level of stress and tension to the world. And it’s like, “What could be more stressful than planning a wedding?” And it’s like, “Planning a wedding during COVID.”

Wigfield: We tried to be really careful about the jokes that we were making, and making sure that they were like, what would be funny in the moment, and not just like, “Oh, we’re making fun of the fact that we all have to wear masks.”

Fey: But I think we were very careful to not make it feel like it was a show about COVID. It’s a show about planning a wedding in a world where people are still trying to figure out what the protocols are.

Is there anything else you wanted to mention about the show?

Wigfield: I just want to say that we had the most amazing cast. We had so much fun working with everyone. And we’re so grateful that everyone came in and brought their A-game, and was so funny and so lovely. It was just a really great experience. And I hope people enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.

Fey: Yeah, it was really fun. And I think that what’s fun about the show is that it’s like, it’s a really fun world to get to inhabit for a little bit of time. And I hope that people enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed writing it. It was a real treat.

After starting from a simple speech, the creators of the hit show “Girls5eva” revealed in a recent interview that they quickly decided to introduce a new character, Anne’s dad, into the mix. This decision added an interesting dynamic to the storyline, especially with the potential for him to appear at the wedding.

Tina Fey, one of the show’s creators, explained that they wanted to make it clear that the new character was not from the movie world to avoid confusing the audience. Despite wanting to include cameos from legends like Rita Moreno or Carol Burnett, Fey admitted that budget constraints made it difficult to reach out to them for guest appearances.

As discussions for a potential second season begin, the creators are considering the direction in which they want to take the characters. While the show’s structure may stick to the “four seasons” format, there is room for exploring different storylines and character developments.

One idea that was brought up during the interview was the possibility of introducing a “hotter friend group” in future episodes. This playful suggestion hinted at the potential for new and exciting storylines to keep the audience engaged.

Looking ahead, the creators are excited to delve deeper into the relationships of the main characters and explore the challenges and joys that come with long-term partnerships. The show’s focus on friendship and personal growth promises to provide a rich and dynamic narrative for future seasons.

In a fun moment during the interview, Tina Fey shared a humorous anecdote about a burrito she had resisted eating, showcasing her quirky sense of humor. The conversation also touched on the return of the movie to Netflix, exciting fans who have been eagerly awaiting its availability for streaming.

Overall, the interview provided insight into the creative process behind “Girls5eva” and hinted at the exciting possibilities for future seasons. With a talented team at the helm, fans can look forward to more laughter, heartwarming moments, and unexpected twists in the episodes to come.
