Ellen DeGeneres Faces Backlash from Ex-Staffers
Ellen DeGeneres, the beloved talk show host, is facing criticism from former employees after the release of her latest Netflix special, For Your Approval. Some ex-staffers have accused DeGeneres of being manipulative and trying to garner sympathy from the audience.
One ex-staffer expressed their feelings, stating, “It feels like it’s manipulative. You’re titling the show For Your Approval, which suggests that you’re trying to guilt the audience into feeling bad for you, and then you’re trying to empower yourself at the same time by saying that you endured all of this hard stuff.”
DeGeneres, 66, has announced that she will be taking a step back from Hollywood after this latest special. However, former employees are skeptical about whether this truly means the end of her career in the spotlight.
Some critics have pointed out the irony in DeGeneres claiming she was “kicked out of show business” while being able to share this allegation on a global platform like Netflix.
It is reported that DeGeneres earned $20 million for her first Netflix special, Relatable, back in 2018. According to The Hollywood Reporter, she had signed a two-special deal with the streaming service, and For Your Approval fulfills that contract.
Despite the backlash, DeGeneres remains a prominent figure in the entertainment industry, and only time will tell if she will truly step back from the limelight as she claims.
