A 14-year-old boy in Chicago was the victim of a robbery at a West Side bus stop, where he was approached by four males who demanded his belongings. The incident occurred on June 16 at Roosevelt Road and Central Park Avenue, resulting in the theft of the boy’s iPhone, Nike gym shoes, and hoodie. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be between $1,200 and $1,450.

The boy bravely fought back against the attackers, punching one of them in self-defense. However, he was overpowered as one of the men lifted him up, allowing another individual to rummage through his pockets and steal his belongings. The traumatized teen ran barefoot to his grandmother’s house nearby, where he sought refuge and contacted the police to report the incident.

Surveillance footage captured part of the attack, showing the boy fleeing the scene without his shoes and entering his grandmother’s home. It also revealed two of the suspects running into a building on West Grenshaw Street, while the other two fled down an alley. The victim later identified one of the robbers as Dnario Brown, recognizing him by a distinctive tattoo above his left eyebrow and recalling seeing him at a facility where his mother works.

In a bold move, the boy and his mother tracked down the suspects to a residence where two of them had been spotted entering. There, the teen was able to recover his iPhone and hoodie. Brown, however, was confronted and physically assaulted by members of the boy’s family before Burbank police intervened and detained him until Chicago police arrived on the scene.

Dnario Brown, 18, has been charged with robbery in connection to the incident and was ordered to be held in custody pending trial by Judge Ankur Srivastava. Brown has a history of violent crimes, with four prior arrests, and was already facing charges in an unrelated case at the time of the robbery. He is scheduled to appear in court later this month to face the charges against him.
