A recent federal court filing has confirmed a disturbing link between the leak of the Supreme Court’s draft ruling on Roe v Wade and an assassination attempt on Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The leaked draft, which was obtained by Politico’s senior legal reporter Josh Gerstein in May 2022, revealed that the Supreme Court had voted to overturn the landmark Roe v Wade decision. Justice Samuel Alito’s draft majority opinion, which was described as a “full-throated, unflinching repudiation” of Roe v Wade, called for the overruling of the decision and a return of the abortion issue to the people’s elected representatives.

Shortly after the draft ruling was leaked, Nicholas Roske of California attempted to break into Kavanaugh’s Maryland home with the intention of killing him. Roske had found Kavanaugh’s home by seeing his house number in a news article about protests in front of his residence. Fortunately, security measures were in place at Kavanaugh’s home, and Roske was unable to carry out his murder-suicide plot. Instead, he walked to a nearby street and contacted his sister, who convinced him to call 911.

In a chilling revelation to federal agents, Roske admitted that he had planned to kill Kavanaugh after seeing the leaked draft of the Supreme Court’s ruling. He stated that the draft had upset him and fueled the delusion that he could make the world a better place by carrying out the assassination. Roske, who also revealed that he had been suicidal for a long time, expressed his disturbed state of mind and the dangerous impact of the leaked information on his actions.

The incident has raised concerns about the implications of leaks of sensitive legal information and the potential risks they pose to public figures. The court filing serves as a stark reminder of the power of information and the need for responsible handling of confidential data. The case has sparked discussions about the importance of safeguarding judicial decisions and the potential consequences of unauthorized disclosures in the digital age.

As the investigation into the assassination attempt continues, the incident serves as a sobering reminder of the threats faced by those in positions of authority and the need for heightened security measures to ensure their safety. The chilling connection between the leaked draft ruling and the attempted attack on Justice Kavanaugh highlights the real-world implications of information leaks and the urgent need for vigilance in protecting sensitive legal documents.
