A fire broke out in the U.S. Capitol’s underground tunnel system that connects Congressional buildings by train, resulting in two U.S. Capitol Police officers being hospitalized.

The incident occurred on a Thursday afternoon, causing concern among officials and passengers using the Capitol subway system.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the train passengers, although the cause of the fire remains unknown at this time.

Footage captured smoke in the tunnels and showed a trolley car near the electrical line, indicating the severity of the situation.

D.C. Fire Department responded promptly to extinguish a small electrical fire on an underground trolley, successfully preventing further damage.

Further updates on the situation are awaited as authorities investigate the cause of the fire and assess the safety of the Capitol subway system.

The subway system plays a crucial role in connecting various government buildings, enabling lawmakers, aides, and guests to commute efficiently within the Capitol complex.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus remains on the well-being of the hospitalized police officers and ensuring the safety of all individuals utilizing the subway system.

Stay tuned for updates as this story develops and more information becomes available regarding the incident at the U.S. Capitol.
