The African adaptation of the popular scripted series “Liar” has been officially announced, marking a significant milestone for Botswana’s burgeoning film industry. Produced by Botswana Ignite in collaboration with renowned distributor All3Media International, the series is scheduled to be completed by early April 2025.

Duncan Irvine, the program director of Botswana Ignite, expressed his excitement about this groundbreaking achievement, stating, “There is a wealth of young filmmaking talent in Botswana that has driven the creative process to develop a uniquely captivating African version of this impactful and globally relevant story.”

The six-part thriller features acclaimed actors Motsoaledi Setumo and Maxwell Dichi, known for their work in various film and television productions. Filmed in Gaborone, the series maintains the core themes of consent and contemporary gender issues that made the original “Liar” series a worldwide success.

Lizzy Ribeiro from All3Media International commended the adaptation, remarking, “We are delighted that our esteemed partners at Botswana Ignite have delivered a high-quality adaptation of our popular series. It is fantastic to see that the compelling scripts and important themes have attracted top African talent both in front of and behind the camera.”

Originally developed by Two Brothers Pictures for ITV in the UK, “Liar” has been adapted in 15 countries globally, including India, Italy, France, and Germany. The Botswana version is set to premiere on a Pan-African streaming platform before airing on local television network BTV.

Botswana Ignite, a government-supported initiative in collaboration with Steve Harvey Global, plays a pivotal role in the expansion of Botswana’s film and television industry. This production signifies Botswana’s increasing influence in the global entertainment sector.
