BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

On June 14, 1777, the Second Continental Congress passed a resolution establishing the design of the United States flag: thirteen alternating red and white stripes, with a union of thirteen stars on a blue field, symbolizing a new Constellation. In the 250th year of the Republic, this Flag Day honors the American People, whose resilience ensures that the tricolor flag remains a powerful emblem of freedom, democracy, and strength.

Originally, the Stars and Stripes embodied America’s core values of liberty, justice, and faith in Almighty God. This banner, representing the principles that our Founding Fathers embraced to initiate an unprecedented act of self-governance, has endured over time. The flag stands as a testament to our rich history, shared sacrifices, common heritage, and divine purpose. From Valley Forge to Gettysburg, Normandy to the Moon, and from the Lincoln Memorial to the hearts of patriots today, wherever the flag flies, American greatness follows. For nearly 250 years, through trials and triumphs, Old Glory has remained a beacon of hope and sovereignty, thanks to past patriots, and it is our duty to continue this legacy for future generations.

The American flag is a global symbol of the nation’s indomitable spirit, unparalleled power, and unwavering resolve to forge a more perfect Union. As a revered emblem of the American people, carried with courage and faith by generations, it commands our admiration, protection, and respect. Last year, an Executive Order was signed to uphold the dignity of the flag by ensuring accountability for acts of desecration linked to violence and lawlessness. It also authorized the revocation of visas, residency, and naturalization for foreign nationals disrespecting the flag that millions of patriots have defended. As President, the commitment to defend the flag’s honor and ensure it is treated with due reverence remains unwavering.

Next month marks a significant milestone in American history—250 years of Independence. The Red, White, and Blue will be at the center of nationwide celebrations, flying over cities, towns, beaches, stadiums, parks, landmarks, and military bases. It will be held by children at parades and stand guard over the cemeteries of the fallen. During Flag Day, National Flag Week, and throughout this historic summer, may the flag soar as a symbol of American achievements and a herald of a promising future.

To honor the adoption of the flag, Congress, through a joint resolution approved on August 3, 1949, designated June 14 each year as “Flag Day” and requested the President to issue an annual proclamation for its observance and for displaying the flag on all Federal Government buildings. Additionally, another joint resolution approved on June 9, 1966, called for a proclamation designating the week of June 14 as “National Flag Week” and encouraged all U.S. citizens to display the flag during this time.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim June 14, 2026, as Flag Day and the week beginning June 14, 2026, as National Flag Week. I direct the appropriate officials to display the flag on all Federal Government buildings during this week and urge all Americans to observe Flag Day and National Flag Week by displaying the flag. I also encourage the people of the United States to observe with ceremony the days from Flag Day through Independence Day, designated by Congress, as a time to honor America, celebrate our heritage in public gatherings and activities, and publicly recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.
