Fox Corp. Invests in Penske Entertainment, Boosting NTT IndyCar Series
Fox Corp. is revving up for more excitement in the world of motorsports as it recently acquired a one-third interest in Penske Entertainment. This strategic move includes ownership of the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, the prestigious NTT IndyCar open-wheel racing series, and IMS Productions. In addition to this acquisition, Fox Sports has extended its media rights deal for IndyCar, setting the stage for a thrilling new chapter in the sport.
While the financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, Fox Sports is confident that this investment will propel the NTT IndyCar Series to new heights. Described as the most competitive and dynamic motorsport on the planet, IndyCar has been gaining momentum in recent years, attracting a growing fan base and increased viewership.
Following its earlier acquisition of IndyCar’s media rights, Fox Sports has seen a significant uptick in viewership. The recent broadcast of the Indianapolis 500 on Fox garnered an impressive 7.01 million viewers, marking a 41% increase from the previous year and reaching a 17-year high. Overall, the 2025 NTT IndyCar season has seen a 31% rise in viewership year-over-year.
Roger Penske, founder and chairman of Penske Corp., expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, emphasizing Fox’s commitment to the sport’s growth. With a shared vision for the future, both parties are eager to drive innovation and enhance the fan experience in IndyCar.
Fox Sports CEO Eric Shanks echoed this sentiment, stating, “We’re thrilled to join the IndyCar ownership group at such a pivotal time for the sport. IndyCar embodies everything we value in live sports, and we are excited to contribute to its continued success.”
The NTT IndyCar Series stands out as the only major motorsport series in North America with every race broadcast on U.S. network television. Featuring a diverse lineup of drivers competing on various tracks, including superspeedways, street circuits, and road courses, the series offers thrilling racing action for fans across the country.
Penske Entertainment’s Indianapolis Motor Speedway serves as the epicenter of motorsports, hosting the legendary Indianapolis 500 each year. With a rich history of hosting major racing events, including Nascar and Formula One races, the venue continues to attract massive crowds and showcase top-tier competition.
It’s important to note that Penske Entertainment is a distinct entity from Penske Media Corp., the parent company of Variety. While both companies share the Penske name, they operate independently in their respective industries.
