Muhammad Thomas, the man accused of shooting and killing a father and son duo who operated a family jewelry store in Little Village, was reportedly absent without leave from two felony cases at the time of the murders. Prosecutors revealed that Thomas was also wanted in one of those cases when he allegedly shot another victim during a carjacking attempt in 2023.

Thomas, 35, is currently in custody awaiting trial on multiple felony charges, including two counts of first-degree murder. Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Pekara detailed the events leading up to the tragic November 8, 2025, killings of Luis Alamo, 25, and his father, Fino Alamo Dominguez, outside Angelo’s Jewelry on West 26th Street.

According to Pekara, Thomas entered the jewelry store and engaged in conversation with Fino before attempting to steal gold necklaces. Hours later, Thomas returned to the store with two juveniles, one of whom was a relative. After a brief visit to the Northwest Side, they returned to Angelo’s Jewelry.

Surveillance footage captured the moments leading up to the shooting, showing Thomas stealing jewelry and being confronted by Luis Alamo. A scuffle ensued, during which Thomas shot Luis Alamo in the leg. Fino Alamo then joined the fray, resulting in a shootout that tragically claimed both their lives.

After the shooting, Thomas fled the scene in a white Maserati with the juveniles. The vehicle was later found burned in another location. Following an investigation, Thomas was located and arrested in a St. Louis hotel room, where authorities recovered multiple weapons linked to the jewelry store murders.

In addition to the jewelry store killings, Thomas is also implicated in a 2023 carjacking attempt and a 2024 burglary and robbery at a pawnshop. Court records indicate that he had a history of criminal charges and prior convictions for aggravated battery.

The case of Muhammad Thomas adds to the growing list of individuals accused of violent crimes while on pretrial release for felony allegations. This troubling trend highlights the need for comprehensive reform in the criminal justice system to ensure the safety of the community and prevent further tragedies.

As the investigation into the jewelry store murders continues, prosecutors are building a strong case against Thomas, who faces a long legal battle ahead. The victims, Luis Alamo and Fino Alamo Dominguez, will be remembered for their lives cut short by senseless violence, leaving a community in mourning and seeking justice for their untimely deaths.
