A tragic incident unfolded in Harlem when a woman, identified as Carmen Lopez, was brutally stabbed around 50 times by her ex-boyfriend in a vicious ambush. The attack took place in the early hours of the morning near the elevator on the third floor of her rental building on West 129th Street. Despite being rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside hospital, Lopez tragically succumbed to her grave injuries.
The motive behind the attack appears to be fueled by jealousy, as the sources revealed that Lopez and her ex-boyfriend were not together at the time of the slaying. Surveillance footage captured the chilling moment when the attacker ambushed Lopez after waiting on the steps for two hours. According to witnesses, Lopez was heard yelling out the name “Luis” as the attack unfolded.
Building porter Lyron Middleton discovered Lopez covered in blood and immediately called 911. The alleged killer was apprehended and placed under a 24-hour psychiatric hold at Lincoln Medical Center. He is currently awaiting charges at the 26th Precinct.
Lopez, a mother of four, leaves behind two children who lived with her and two older children who reside in New Jersey. The building superintendent expressed shock and disbelief at the tragic event, describing the victim and her family as nice and not problematic individuals.
As the community mourns the loss of Carmen Lopez, a memorial has been set up outside the Harlem apartment building in her honor. The senseless act of violence has left residents shaken and seeking justice for the beloved mother. The investigation into the tragic incident continues as authorities work to bring the perpetrator to justice.
