Eva Carneiro, previously the lead doctor for Chelsea’s first team, has responded strongly to Jose Mourinho and John Terry after they revisited the incident that led to her exit from the club.

In a Netflix documentary, Mourinho asserted that Carneiro and chief physio Jon Fearn made a mistake by entering the field to treat Eden Hazard during Chelsea’s 2-2 match against Swansea City in 2015.

During the match, Mourinho angrily confronted Carneiro and Fearn, arguing that their decision to aid Hazard left the team with only nine players after Thibaut Courtois had already been sent off.

Terry, in the documentary, supported Mourinho’s recollection, suggesting there was an agreement that medical staff would intervene only for clearly serious injuries.

Carneiro, having previously responded to the documentary’s viral clip, issued another sharp retort about the incident.

“11 years on and here we are reliving the worst. Hope they made some money,” she posted on X.

In a separate post, she addressed Terry, writing:

“We are bound by a medico-legal code of conduct. Genuinely it would be healthy for John Terry to learn the rules of the game. It’s been long enough mate.”

She also shared a statement from the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine, emphasizing that medical staff are obligated to attend to a player when requested by the referee.

“So IT IS really simple. Referee Michael Oliver called us on TWICE, player Eden Hazard requested medical assistance we then made eye contact from side line and he confirmed he needed medical assistance, TWICE. At that point my hands are bound as a medical professional,” she elaborated.

Following the match against Swansea, Carneiro and Fearn were relieved of their first-team duties. Carneiro departed from Chelsea the next month and subsequently pursued legal action against the club, winning a £5 million settlement.

Chelsea has since apologized to Carneiro, but Mourinho has not. The Football Association cleared Mourinho in September 2015 of allegations of making discriminatory remarks towards Carneiro during the incident.

Mourinho’s Reaction to Carneiro and Fearn’s Treatment of Hazard

Mourinho expressed clear frustration when Carneiro and Fearn rushed onto the pitch to attend to Hazard after he fell following a challenge. Television footage showed Mourinho directing a series of expletives at them.

“Hey! And now we play with nine. F**king hell! We play with nine now. F**K off man!” he exclaimed.

Carneiro later accused Mourinho of sexual discrimination during the incident. In the documentary, Mourinho denied these allegations, asserting that he would have treated a male doctor in the same manner.
