Jack Black Reveals Why He Skipped “Saturday Night Live” Audition
In a recent interview on Amy Poehler’s “Good Hang” podcast, Jack Black shared the story of how he almost auditioned for “Saturday Night Live” but ultimately decided against it. The comedic actor had a unique idea for his audition that he never followed through with, citing his doubts about his chances of getting in.
Black’s audition concept involved him portraying a superhero character inspired by the classic Marvel hero, the Hulk. He described his act as a mix of the Hulk’s strength and a performance art dance routine. In his mind, he envisioned himself jumping around, crushing objects with his foot, and miming the earth cracking beneath him.
Despite practicing the routine in front of the mirror a few times, Black couldn’t shake the feeling that he wouldn’t be selected for the show. He admitted that he never took the plunge and officially auditioned for “SNL.”
During the podcast conversation, Amy Poehler reassured Black that he had the potential to be a cast member on the iconic sketch show. However, Black expressed hesitation about the demanding schedule of “SNL,” stating that a weekly commitment wouldn’t suit his preferred pace. He joked that appearing on the show once every 20 years would be more his speed.
