Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) emphasized Thursday that Donald Trump has always prioritized moving forward rather than seeking retribution, amid reports that the White House is considering preemptive pardons for individuals who have been targeted by the president-elect.
Various media outlets have indicated that senior White House officials are in serious discussions regarding potential pardons for some of Trump’s political adversaries. The list reportedly includes former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), California Sen.-elect Adam Schiff (D), and Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease.
During an interview on Fox News, Larry Kudlow asked Jordan about the Democrats’ plans. Jordan drew a parallel between their actions and a group of Trump allies who asked for pardons from the former president during the final days of his first term over their involvement in the 2020 election controversy.
“[Democrats] went after some of my colleagues alleging they sought pardons, but I’m not aware of any such requests,” Jordan stated. “This is absurd. Donald Trump has always prioritized preventing government agencies from being used against the people. He has also been vigilant in protecting himself from such abuse.”
Among Trump’s allies in Congress who reportedly sought pardons from Trump were former Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.). Although Jordan was mentioned as someone who discussed pardons for Trump’s allies, he reportedly never requested one himself, as per a former Trump official who testified before the House Jan. 6 committee in 2022.
Contrary to Jordan’s statements, Trump has frequently expressed his intention to seek revenge against those he views as political adversaries. He called for Cheney and others on the House Jan. 6 committee to be jailed, and labeled Schiff and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) as “internal enemies.”
Trump has also frequently accused President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former President Barack Obama of corruption, vowing to use the Justice Department to investigate them.
The president-elect has also revealed his intention to nominate a group of loyalists to head the country’s justice and law enforcement agencies, all of whom have been staunch supporters of his retaliatory agenda.

“I am your warrior, I am your justice,” Trump told supporters in Texas last year. “For those who have been wronged and betrayed … I am your retribution.”
The statement is already clear and concise as it is.
