Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) to Close Transyouth Health and Development Program by July

In a significant and controversial decision, CHLA has announced the impending closure of its Transyouth Health and Development program, set to take effect by the end of July. This move comes in response to increasing federal scrutiny over practices deemed harmful, particularly regarding the surgical and medical interventions involving minors under the guise of “gender science.”

Sources indicate that CHLA is currently facing an investigation from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is looking into possible breaches of the new federal guidelines established during the Trump administration concerning sex reassignment procedures for minors.

As one of the few hospitals in the United States offering sex change surgeries and hormone treatments to individuals under 18, funded by taxpayer dollars, CHLA has found itself in a precarious position.

“The threats are no longer theoretical,” the hospital emphasized in internal communications.

In an email to staff, CHLA explained, “The need to navigate this complex and unpredictable regulatory landscape is paramount. Our goal is to ensure that we can continue to operate and serve as many patients as possible.” The hospital characterized the closure as a painful yet necessary measure to protect its operational viability against external pressures that it cannot control.

According to reporting by The Post Millennial, CHLA’s reliance on public funding is greater than that of any other pediatric center in California, making it particularly susceptible to shifts in federal policy. It is noted that approximately 40 percent of pediatric beds in Los Angeles are located at CHLA, leading hospital executives to prioritize the delivery of care, especially for low-income and chronically ill children.

In a related move, HHS recently established a whistleblower hotline aimed at gathering reports on chemical or surgical interventions performed on minors. This initiative is part of enforcing Trump’s executive order titled “Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” which allows concerned individuals to report suspected instances of administering puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, or surgical procedures for gender transition in children.
