An opulent Manhattan townhouse with a storied past is now on the market for $22.5 million. Located at 80 Washington Place, this red brick Georgian-style home has a rich history that includes hosting rigged poker games involving NBA stars and Mafia members, as alleged by federal prosecutors. The property was previously rented by Travis Scott, the former partner of Kylie Jenner, but there is no indication that they were involved in the illegal activities.

The current seller, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased the home for $17 million in cash just last year. The townhouse had been on and off the market for 12 years, with an initial listing price of $31.5 million back in 2012. The seller, William Rainero, who grew up in the house when it was divided into separate apartments, decided to part ways with the property.

Constructed in 1839, the townhouse was designed by William Renwick, the nephew of James Renwick, the architect of St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Over the years, the home has seen various notable occupants, including John Philip Sousa, the renowned composer of “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”

In recent years, the property made headlines when it was revealed to have been used for illegal poker games orchestrated by members of the Gambino mob family in 2023. NBA players such as Chauncey Billups, Damon Jones, and Terry Rozier were reportedly involved in luring high-stakes players to the games, leading to substantial financial losses for the participants.

The townhouse underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2011 by Clodagh Design, incorporating modern elements like glass, steel, and wood into the traditional brick and stone structure. With six bedrooms, six baths, and three powder rooms spread across 8,700 square feet, the interior exudes elegance and sophistication. Additionally, the property boasts four private terraces totaling 1,566 square feet, providing ample outdoor space for relaxation and entertainment.

The listing, managed by Melissa Olson of Douglas Elliman, highlights the home’s luxurious amenities, including a 700-bottle wine cellar, a mezzanine level for a home office or library, a private gym, and a rooftop deck with panoramic views of Washington Square Park and One World Trade Center. Approved building plans for potential modifications are available, ensuring that any changes to the historic landmark comply with city regulations.

With its rich history, elegant design, and prime location, this Manhattan townhouse offers a unique opportunity for discerning buyers looking for a luxurious urban retreat.
