Margot Robbie and Charli XCX recently sat down for a candid interview with Complex for their “GOAT Talk” series. During the interview, Robbie opened up about a hurtful experience she had with a male co-star early in her career. She recalled how the actor gave her a book titled “Why French Women Don’t Get Fat,” which essentially encouraged her to eat less in order to lose weight. Robbie was taken aback by the insensitive gift and expressed her disbelief, stating, “Woah, f**k you, dude.”
When Charli inquired if the male co-star was still in the industry, Robbie revealed that this incident occurred a long time ago and she had no idea where he is now. Reflecting on the incident, Robbie shared, “He essentially gave me a book to let me know that I should lose weight. I was like, ‘Wow.’”
Currently, Robbie is starring in and producing the film adaptation of “Wuthering Heights,” where she plays Catherine Earnshaw opposite Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff. Directed by Emerald Fennell, known for “Promising Young Woman” and “Saltburn,” the movie is generating buzz with its marketing campaign featuring original songs by Charli XCX. Despite the erotic undertones in the promotions, Robbie assures audiences that the film is more romantic than provocative.
In a recent interview with British Vogue, Robbie explained, “Everyone’s expecting this to be very, very raunchy. I think people will be surprised. Not to say there aren’t sexual elements and that it’s not provocative – it definitely is provocative – but it’s more romantic than provocative.” She elaborated on the emotional impact of the film, likening it to classic romantic dramas like “The Notebook” and “The English Patient.” Robbie praised Fennell’s ability to evoke strong physical responses from viewers, whether it be titillation or repulsion.
