Andrew Moran Arrested Again for Attempted Carjacking

CHICAGO — Just three months after being sentenced to probation for attempting to carjack a woman on the Northwest Side, Andrew Moran finds himself back in custody for a similar offense.

In a case that bears striking resemblance to his previous crime, Moran, 27, is accused of trying to carjack another woman in Portage Park. This incident occurred at the Shell service station located at 4001 North Laramie.

Back in August, Moran pleaded guilty to attempted vehicular hijacking and aggravated battery of a peace officer. Despite being given two years of mental health probation by Judge Anjana Hansen, Moran’s behavior has once again landed him in trouble with the law.

On the evening of November 7, Moran allegedly approached a woman at the gas pumps and demanded her keys, using threatening language. He then proceeded to chase the woman into the service station’s convenience store, where he physically restrained her, took her keys, and drove off with her 2010 Lexus RX350.

Fortunately, surveillance footage from the gas station helped authorities identify Moran, who subsequently turned himself in upon learning that he was wanted in connection with the crime. Judge Anthony Calabrese has ordered Moran to be detained pending trial.

It is clear that Moran’s criminal behavior has not abated, despite his recent legal troubles. The repeated nature of his offenses raises concerns about public safety and underscores the need for appropriate measures to address his actions.

As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen what consequences Moran will face for his latest offense and whether further intervention will be necessary to prevent future incidents.

For now, the community must remain vigilant and rely on law enforcement to ensure that individuals like Moran are held accountable for their actions.
