Mick Schumacher, the 25-year-old German driver, has made a significant career move by joining the IndyCar series in 2026 after spending most of his early professional racing career in Europe. Moving away from Formula 1 and the World Endurance Championship, Schumacher found a new avenue to progress his career with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing.

In a recent interview with IndyCar media, including Sportskeeda, Schumacher expressed his satisfaction with his decision to join the American open-wheel series. He highlighted the positive aspects of IndyCar that are often overlooked in Europe, where Formula 1 reigns supreme. Schumacher acknowledged that while F1 was not an option for him in 2026, he was delighted to be a part of IndyCar and hoped to bring more attention to the series back in Europe.

Schumacher’s positive outlook on IndyCar reflects a sentiment shared by former F1TV presenter Will Buxton, who joined FOX’s IndyCar broadcast team in 2025. Buxton described IndyCar as “motorsports’ best-kept secret,” noting that many racing stakeholders recognize the series for its intense and competitive racing but do not publicly acknowledge it. He emphasized that IndyCar offers some of the best racing in the world, with thrilling wheel-to-wheel competition throughout the season.

With FOX as IndyCar’s exclusive broadcasting partner and an increased focus on marketing the series, IndyCar’s global image is on the rise. The addition of a driver like Mick Schumacher, who brings his stature and experience to the series, will further enhance its reputation on the international stage. Schumacher’s enthusiasm for IndyCar and his positive experiences with Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing bode well for his future in the series.

As IndyCar continues to gain recognition for its exciting and competitive racing, it is poised to attract a larger audience and expand its reach beyond the American market. With drivers like Mick Schumacher embracing the series and promoting its virtues, IndyCar is well-positioned to solidify its status as a premier open-wheel racing championship.
