Michael Weatherly is set to reprise his role as the beloved Tony DiNozzo in the upcoming 24th season of “NCIS,” according to Variety. Weatherly will feature prominently throughout the season, contributing to the show’s enduring popularity.
In recent developments, Weatherly is the second major actor from “NCIS” to return, following the announcement of Mark Harmon’s return as Gibbs in the prequel series “NCIS: Origins.”
Weatherly initially introduced Tony DiNozzo in a two-part backdoor pilot on “JAG” in 2003 before “NCIS” debuted on CBS. He portrayed the character for 13 seasons and over 300 episodes, appearing in various franchise spin-offs. He also made a guest appearance in the 21st season of “NCIS” before co-leading the Paramount+ spinoff “NCIS: Tony & Ziva” with Cote de Pablo.
After leaving “NCIS,” Weatherly remained with CBS, starring in the legal drama “Bull” for six seasons, from 2016 to 2022. His tenure on the show was marred by controversy, as actress Eliza Dushku accused Weatherly of sexual harassment during her time on set.
The current “NCIS” cast includes Sean Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Brian Dietzen, Diona Reasonover, Katrina Law, and Gary Cole. The executive production team features Steven D. Binder, Chas. Floyd Johnson, Mark Harmon, Scott Williams, Christopher J. Waild, Mark R. Schilz, José Clemente Hernandez, Avery C. Drewe, Marco Schnabel, and Donald P. Bellisario. CBS Studios is responsible for production.
As a key feature of CBS’s programming, “NCIS” is set to premiere its 24th season on Tuesdays this fall, alongside the third season of “Origins.” Additionally, CBS airs “NCIS: Sydney” and is preparing “NCIS: New York,” which will star LL Cool J and Scott Caan.
Previous franchise iterations include “NCIS: New Orleans,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” featuring LL Cool J, “NCIS: Hawaiʻi,” and “NCIS: Tony & Ziva.”
