Pizza Hut Will Stop Advertising in Super Bowl Pre-Game

Pizza Hut, known for its iconic Super Bowl commercials, will be noticeably absent from the ad breaks during the pre-game programming on NBC ahead of Super Bowl LX. This marks a significant departure for the Yum Brands restaurant chain, which has been a fixture in Super Bowl advertising for years. Despite its long-standing presence in pre-game coverage, Pizza Hut has decided to sit out this year’s festivities.

In the past, Pizza Hut has been a regular advertiser during Super Bowl pre-game shows, with memorable commercials featuring celebrities like Jessica Simpson and the Muppet Miss Piggy. However, in recent years, the chain has scaled back its ad presence during the big game. In 2024, Pizza Hut ran just seven pre-game commercials on Fox, a far cry from the 20 ads it aired in 2020.

The decision to forgo Super Bowl advertising may be part of a larger strategic shift for Pizza Hut. In November, Yum Brands announced a strategic review of Pizza Hut operations, suggesting that the brand may be looking to explore new opportunities outside of the corporation. Despite this change, Pizza Hut remains a popular choice for consumers, with a new ad campaign featuring football star Tom Brady promoting a $10 deal on the chain’s Big New Yorker pizza.

While Pizza Hut may be skipping the Super Bowl this year, fans can still expect to see the chain’s commercials during other major sporting events. Pizza Hut is reportedly planning to run ads during the NCAA’s March Madness tournament, reaching a different audience of sports fans.

Overall, Pizza Hut’s decision to step back from Super Bowl advertising reflects a broader trend in the foodservice industry. As consumer preferences shift towards different types of cuisine, pizza chains like Pizza Hut are facing increased competition. Despite these challenges, Pizza Hut remains a beloved choice for many, with plans to continue engaging with consumers through alternative advertising channels.
