Jack Ciattarelli: A Second Chance in New Jersey’s Governor Race

In 2021, Republican Jack Ciattarelli surprised many by coming significantly closer to winning the New Jersey gubernatorial election than expected. On election night, there were fleeting moments when it even seemed he might clinch victory.

Now, as he gears up for another run in 2025, right-wing supporters are rallying around him with increased fervor. Notably, Republican activist Scott Presler is actively working on the ground to register new Republican voters across the state.

Recent polling suggests that Ciattarelli’s path to victory hinges on his stance regarding a particular contentious issue.

According to a report from the New York Post, a recent survey indicates that Ciattarelli may find success in the upcoming New Jersey governor’s race by taking a firm stance against transgender rights.

Conducted by the conservative American Principles Project, the poll reveals that a significant 68% of New Jersey voters oppose allowing biological boys who identify as transgender to compete in girls’ sports, while only 22% support such participation.

Furthermore, more than 70% of residents are against taxpayer funding for gender transition or sex reassignment surgeries for minors, with only 20% in favor of such measures. Additionally, the survey found that 60% of voters oppose public elementary schools teaching about sexual orientation and transgender issues, while 31% support such educational initiatives. This survey involved 500 likely voters, conducted by Cygnal.

Ciattarelli is set to compete against Democratic nominee Rep. Mikie Sherrill, who has publicly supported transgender rights. They are vying to take over from Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy, who is term-limited and unable to seek re-election.

Initial polling shows Sherrill leading Ciattarelli by 50% to 43%, with 7% of respondents remaining undecided.

As voters are briefed on Sherrill’s position on transgender rights, statements highlight her congressional votes, which include allowing boys who identify as girls to compete in girls’ sports.

Democrats, it appears, may be on shaky ground concerning this issue. It seems prudent for Republicans to capitalize on this vulnerability with calculated precision.
