Today marks the 91st anniversary of the signing of the landmark Social Security Act by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. For over nine decades, this program has been a cornerstone of American life, ensuring that those who have contributed to building the nation, nurturing families, and driving the economy can enjoy their later years with the security they deserve.
As President, I am committed to safeguarding Social Security, supporting America’s seniors, and investing in the hardworking individuals who uphold our Republic. To this end, I enacted the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which removed federal taxes on Social Security benefits for millions of seniors. This act represents the largest tax cut in history for older Americans, allowing them to retain more of their hard-earned income. Within a year, over 35 million seniors have benefited from an average tax deduction of more than $7,500, providing substantial savings for households nationwide during tax season. This initiative will continue to bolster the financial security of our retirees, offering them the dignity, stability, and peace of mind they have earned through years of service.
Ensuring the longevity of Social Security for future generations involves eradicating waste, fraud, and abuse within the program. These benefits rightfully belong to American citizens who have worked honestly for decades, and my Administration is determined to prevent criminal illegal aliens and fraudsters from exploiting a system they did not contribute to. To combat this theft, I signed a Presidential Memorandum to stop illegal aliens and other ineligible individuals from accessing Social Security Act benefits, and we are deporting those who unlawfully take from our nation. Through these measures, we are restoring integrity to Social Security and protecting every dollar for the diligent Americans who fund it.
Through significant tax relief and efforts to reduce costs for prescription drugs, healthcare, and daily necessities, my Administration is dedicated to making life more affordable for all Americans. We are committed to ensuring that Social Security remains steadfast and that every American senior can enjoy a retirement that is safe and secure.
