Congressional Republicans returned to the Capitol on Monday, where CNN’s Manu Raju pursued them for evidence supporting Trump’s allegations that the California primary election was manipulated.
When Raju questioned the Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson responded:
Look, I don’t… Some of these activities are so cunning and distant that proving them is impossible, yet instinctively, everyone senses something is amiss, which is concerning. It is vital for people to trust the integrity of our election system to preserve a constitutional republic. We are committed to advancing the Save America Act, which mandates proof of citizenship and a photo ID for voting.
These measures enjoy over 90% public support, and 70% of Democrats acknowledge their necessity. We must ensure free and fair elections.
Johnson appeared to suggest that the lack of evidence for election rigging in the California primary was due to the “diabolical” nature of Democrats in the state.
This stance implies that Republicans believe they can claim election fraud without concrete evidence.
For further clarity, House Majority Leader Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) was more direct than Johnson.
CNN’s Manu Raju asked Scalise during his weekly press conference, “The president keeps saying that the California election was rigged. What evidence have you seen to show that there has been widespread fraud that has caused this election to be stolen, according to the president?”
