Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, tragically met their end in a brutal murder, as revealed by their death certificates released by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office. The certificates confirm that both Rob and Michele died from multiple sharp point injuries inflicted with a knife by another person.

The couple’s remains were cremated at Mount Sinai Mortuary, and their ashes were given to their oldest son, Jake Reiner. Rob, known for his work as an actor, director, and producer, and Michele, a producer herself, were laid to rest at Jake’s residence.

The death certificates indicate that Rob passed away at 3:45 pm, while Michele followed a minute later at 3:46 pm on the day of the tragic incident. Emergency responders were called to the family’s home at 3:30 pm on December 14, suggesting that the recorded time of death was when they were officially pronounced deceased at the scene.

The official cause of death for both Rob and Michele was listed as homicide, confirming the brutal nature of the crime. Following their deaths, their son Nick Reiner made his first court appearance since the incident, with an arraignment scheduled for January 7, 2026.

Nick has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance due to the multiple murders. The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office mentioned that Nick faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without parole or the death penalty, with the final decision on the penalty yet to be made.

The investigations revealed that the bodies of Rob and Michele were found by their daughter, Romy Reiner, with stab wounds to their throats and multiple injuries throughout their bodies. The couple’s other children, Romy and Jake, released a statement expressing their profound grief and requesting privacy during this difficult time.

Rob and Michele, who tied the knot in 1989 after meeting on the set of “When Harry Met Sally,” leave behind a legacy of love and creativity. Their lives were cut short in a senseless act of violence, leaving their family, friends, and fans in shock and mourning. The Reiner family now seeks justice for the heinous crime that took the lives of their beloved parents.
