Private Security Guard Fires Shot After Being Struck by Hit-and-Run Driver Near Wrigley Field
Early Sunday morning, a private security guard fired a shot after being struck by a hit-and-run driver near Wrigley Field, as reported by Chicago police. Fortunately, no injuries resulted from the gunfire, but the security guard was hospitalized for treatment.
The incident unfolded when CPD officers tried to stop a light-colored SUV for speeding in the 3500 block of North Clark Street around 2:15 a.m. A 34-year-old armed security guard was assisting the police with the traffic stop when the driver of the SUV hit him with the vehicle, according to a police spokesperson.
In response to the attack, the guard drew his weapon and fired a single shot, as confirmed by CPD. The SUV, driven by a male suspect, was last seen heading north on Clark Street following the altercation.
The Chicago Fire Department promptly transported the injured security guard to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition with injuries to his shoulder and shin, as stated by the spokesperson.
