Netflix is making a big push into Korean content with its new series, “Variety,” which brings together the talents of Son Ye-jin and Jo Yu-ri in a drama set in the world of K-pop.

The casting of Son Ye-jin and Jo Yu-ri is a smart move by Netflix. Son Ye-jin, known for her role in “Crash Landing on You,” brings her global appeal to the series, while Jo Yu-ri, who gained fame in “Squid Game,” is establishing herself as a rising star in Korean entertainment.

Behind the camera, Netflix has enlisted Kim Yong-hoon to direct the series. Kim is known for his hit show “Mask Girl,” which topped the Global Top 10 Non-English TV rankings. With his expertise in creating tension in crime stories, Kim is set to bring his unique visual style to the world of K-pop in “Variety.”

The series will explore the complex dynamics between industry executives and fans. Son Ye-jin plays Se-eun, a top entertainment executive trying to revive a struggling idol group, while Jo Yu-ri portrays Seung-hui, an obsessive fan. This dynamic will delve into the high-stakes nature of Korea’s entertainment industry and the relationships between idols and their supporters.

Jo Yu-ri’s casting is especially interesting as she transitions from being a K-pop idol to a dramatic actor. Her journey mirrors the changing landscape of Korean entertainment, where boundaries between different media sectors are becoming increasingly blurred.

“Variety” is a collaboration between Netflix, CJ ENM Studios, and UNU, showcasing the streaming giant’s commitment to investing in Korean content. With the success of shows like “Squid Game” and “Kingdom,” as well as international hits like “Crash Landing on You,” Netflix is tapping into the growing popularity of Korean entertainment.

For Son Ye-jin, “Variety” is another strategic partnership as she expands her career beyond “Crash Landing on You.” The actress is also set to star in Park Chan-wook’s “No Other Choice” and Netflix’s period drama “Scandals,” solidifying her status as one of Korea’s most sought-after talents in both film and streaming platforms.

Overall, “Variety” promises to be a captivating exploration of the K-pop industry, with a talented cast and crew bringing the glamorous yet cutthroat world to life on screen. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new series from Netflix.
