Tennis star Sloane Stephens has announced the end of her marriage to Jozy Altidore in a social media post on Saturday.
Stephens stated that they are parting ways with “mutual respect” and has requested privacy regarding the matter without disclosing the reason for the divorce.
Divorce documents filed by Stephens in Florida earlier this month cite the marriage as “irretrievably broken,” indicating the existence of a prenuptial agreement between the couple. Despite Altidore having a child from a previous relationship, they share no children together.
Stephens and Altidore first met in middle school and reconnected in 2016, eventually tying the knot on January 1, 2022, in Miami Beach, FL.
Altidore, a retired soccer professional, had a successful career in Major League Soccer and internationally from 2006 to 2022, representing the United States Men’s National Team with 42 goals in 115 appearances.
Despite battling injuries in recent years, Stephens managed to compete in the Australian Open last month. Once ranked as high as number 3 in the world, she is currently ranked 775th by the World Tennis Association.
