The Banff Rockie Awards International Program Competition took place on Monday night, with Peacock’s “The Day of the Jackal” and “We Are Lady Parts” emerging as the big winners in the English-language drama and comedy series categories, respectively. The event also honored other outstanding programs such as Fox’s “The Simpsons” for animated series and the Disney+ documentary “Jim Henson Idea Man” for arts & culture.
The UK dominated the awards, winning a total of 16 accolades, followed closely by the US with nine wins. This year marked the merger of the Banff Gala Awards and Rockie Awards International Program Competition into a single ceremony during the Banff World Media Festival.
The Banff Gala Awards recognized visionary executives, creatives, and changemakers in the media industry, while the Rockie Awards International Program Competition focused on TV and digital media. With 152 nominees from 22 countries across 30 categories, this year’s competition showcased a diverse range of talent from around the world.
Notable gala honorees included Hans Zimmer, who received the career achievement award, and Stephan James, who was presented with the Canadian Award of Distinction. Phil Rosenthal was also honored with the Award of Excellence for his exceptional contribution to the entertainment industry over an extended period. South Korea was recognized as the country of honor at this year’s event.
The ceremony, hosted by “Canada’s Drag Race” Season 1 winner Priyanka, celebrated winners across various categories including Arts & Entertainment, Children & Youth, Documentary & Factual, Podcasts, Scripted, and Special Prizes. Some of the winners included “The Graham Norton Show” for Comedy & Variety, “The Traitors UK” for Competition Series & Game Shows, and “Black Twitter: A People’s History” for Docuseries.
