Global animation producer Superprod Animation and Red Monk Studio from Milan have joined forces to kick off production on a new CG-animated series called “Underdog,” a modern take on the beloved 1959 cartoon series. This exciting project has been commissioned by M6 and Gulli in France, as well as RAI in Italy.

The new iteration of “Underdog” aims to capture the essence of the original 1960s classic that captivated audiences for years on various networks. Superprod and Red Monk Studio are set to create 52 11-minute episodes of the series, catering to kids and families alike. The show will follow the adventures of Underdog, a bumbling yet well-intentioned superhero donning an oversized suit and cape. The updated series promises to deliver the same level of humor as its predecessor while emphasizing important values like teamwork, courage, and perseverance. Production will take place at Superprod Group’s state-of-the-art studios in France and Italy.

The “Underdog” reboot was brought to life for television by seasoned animation professionals Matt Smith (“The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants, The Croods”) and Shane Morris (“Frozen,” “Wreck-it-Ralph”), who will serve as story editors for the show. The episodes will be helmed by Charles Vaucelle, a renowned director known for his work on popular animated series such as “Pat the Dog,” “Oggy and the Cockroaches,” “The Daltons,” and “Lucky Luke.”

Superprod Group co-founders Jérémie Fajner and Clément Calvet expressed their excitement about revitalizing “Underdog” for a new generation, stating, “With our incredible team of top-notch talent, we are thrilled to say, ‘There’s No Need to Fear; Underdog is Here!'” Red Monk Studio’s Pedro Citaristi also shared his enthusiasm for the project, thanking RAI and M6 Group for their trust and collaboration.

Gulli President Philippe Bony added to the excitement, stating, “We are delighted to collaborate with Superprod and Charles Vaucelle once again. Underdog, with his endearing qualities of being tender, awkward, and brave, is the kind of hero we adore.”

Fans can expect to catch “Underdog” on M6 and Gulli in France, as well as RAI in Italy, with the show set to premiere in 2025. Superights, the international sales arm of Superprod Group, will handle global distribution for the series.

In conclusion, the revival of “Underdog” promises to bring a fresh and engaging take on the classic superhero to audiences worldwide, blending nostalgic elements with a modern twist. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting animated series!
