A heart-stopping moment was caught on camera in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as a woman managed to escape her ex-boyfriend who allegedly attempted to kidnap and assault her on Valentine’s Day. The incident unfolded around 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, prompting a swift response from law enforcement after receiving a distressing report of domestic violence and attempted abduction.

The victim, whose identity has been withheld, recounted a harrowing ordeal with her ex-partner, identified as Kenneth Clarke. She detailed how Clarke, 53, physically assaulted her by striking her multiple times, ripping out her lip ring, and choking her to the point of near unconsciousness. Additionally, she claimed that he forcefully shoved her into a wall, resulting in a laceration to her ear.

Subsequently, Clarke allegedly dragged the victim by her hair and coerced her into the driver’s seat of a U-Haul van. Armed with a pair of scissors, he menaced her life and prevented her from escaping as he drove away. However, at the intersection of West Cunningham and Pillow streets, the victim summoned her courage and made a daring escape attempt, despite Clarke’s violent efforts to restrain her by stabbing her with the scissors.

In a desperate bid for freedom, the victim fled to a nearby store, where she sought refuge and contacted emergency services for assistance. Surveillance footage captured the heart-pounding moment as she sprinted away from Clarke, running across a parking lot and seeking sanctuary inside the store. Although Clarke briefly followed her into the store before departing prior to police arrival, the extent of his presence inside remains unclear.

Following the victim’s testimony, authorities issued a lookout alert for Clarke, eventually locating his vehicle in Cranberry Township. A brief pursuit ensued, culminating in Clarke’s apprehension and transfer to the Butler City Police Department. He now faces a slew of charges, including kidnapping, aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats, and simple assault. Clarke has been arraigned and is being held in custody on a $250,000 bail.

As the legal process unfolds, questions linger regarding the nature of Clarke and the victim’s relationship, the circumstances surrounding their encounter on Valentine’s Day, and the ongoing investigation into the incident. The Butler City Police Department has yet to provide further details in response to inquiries about the case.

As the community grapples with the aftermath of this chilling event, the victim’s resilience in the face of danger serves as a testament to her bravery. The relentless pursuit of justice for survivors of domestic violence remains paramount, underscoring the importance of supporting and empowering those affected by such traumatic experiences. The road to healing may be long and arduous, but with steadfast determination and unwavering solidarity, hope shines bright on the horizon.
