Christmas has been a contentious issue in Trump’s White House, with leaked audio revealing Melania Trump’s frustration over the holiday during her husband’s first term. In the audio, Melania can be heard venting about her responsibilities in decorating for Christmas, stating, “I’m working… my ass off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f— about the Christmas stuff and decorations?”

She also expressed annoyance at being criticized for focusing on Christmas decorations while the issue of family separations at the border was ongoing. Melania’s Christmas decor choices were also scrutinized during Donald’s first term, particularly the blood-red “American Treasures” trees, which drew comparisons to colors from The Handmaid’s Tale and The Shining.

The White House defended Melania’s color choice, stating that it was a reference to “pales, or stripes, found in the presidential seal designed by our Founding Fathers” and symbolized “valor and bravery.”
