Writer, the enterprise generative AI company valued at $1.9 billion, has unveiled Palmyra X5, a new large language model (LLM) designed to revolutionize the adoption of autonomous AI agents in corporate settings. With a 1-million-token context window, Palmyra X5 promises to offer faster and more cost-effective solutions compared to industry giants like OpenAI and Anthropic. Priced at $0.60 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, Writer aims to make AI agents more accessible to a wide range of enterprise customers.

According to Matan-Paul Shetrit, Director of Product at Writer, Palmyra X5 enables multi-step agentic flows by combining a large context window with the model’s tool or function calling capabilities. The model was trained using synthetic data for approximately $1 million in GPU costs, showcasing Writer’s commitment to cost efficiency in model development. By implementing early stopping criteria for minimal instruct tuning, Writer has been able to significantly reduce training costs, setting itself apart from competitors who spend tens or hundreds of millions on model development.

Palmyra X5’s technical architecture includes a hybrid attention mechanism and a mixture of experts approach, allowing the model to process a million-token prompt in just 22 seconds and execute multi-turn function calls in 300 milliseconds. On benchmark tests, Palmyra X5 demonstrated impressive performance, scoring 19.1% on OpenAI’s MRCR 8-needle test and ranking eighth in coding on the BigCodeBench benchmark. These results position Palmyra X5 as a cost-effective option for enterprise customers looking to deploy AI agents with near-flagship capabilities.

The release of Palmyra X5 coincides with the launch of AI HQ, a platform for enterprises to build, deploy, and supervise AI agents. Writer’s dual product strategy aims to meet the growing demand for AI solutions that can automate complex business processes autonomously. Early adopters are already leveraging Palmyra X5 for various enterprise workflows, from financial reporting to customer feedback analysis, showcasing the model’s versatility and potential impact on enterprise operations.

In a strategic move to expand its reach, Writer has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to make Palmyra X5 available on Amazon Bedrock, AWS’s fully managed service for accessing foundation models. This partnership aims to simplify the deployment and management of AI models at scale, opening up opportunities for millions of developers to leverage Writer’s AI technology.

Looking ahead, Writer envisions self-evolving models that continuously learn and improve without human intervention. By focusing on large context windows and cost-efficient solutions, Writer is challenging industry giants like OpenAI and Anthropic. With a strong emphasis on cost efficiency and enterprise-focused models, Writer is well-positioned to drive widespread adoption of AI agents within major enterprises.

As enterprises increasingly prioritize the economic impact of AI solutions, Writer’s pragmatic approach to cost efficiency may prove to be the key differentiator in the competitive AI landscape. By delivering superior speed and lower costs, Writer aims to accelerate the adoption of AI agents and reshape the future of enterprise AI.
