A young man in Dunedin caused a commotion after his girlfriend was stopped for drink driving. Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond reported that the 18-year-old woman tried to hide in the backseat of the car to avoid being seen as the driver when they were pulled over on Stirling St, Mosgiel at 4am. As she was being processed for drink driving, her 18-year-old boyfriend started yelling and screaming on the street, eventually leading to his arrest for disorderly behavior and obstruction of the police.

The girlfriend tested with a breath alcohol level of 296mcg, well above the legal limit of 0mcg for individuals under 20 years old. Both individuals are scheduled to appear in the Dunedin District Court, with the man appearing tomorrow and the woman next Thursday.

In a separate incident, police stopped a stolen vehicle at a petrol station on Cumberland St around 12.10am. The 52-year-old driver was found with a .223 Remington firearm that he did not have a license for. He was arrested and set to appear in court on charges of receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Another incident involved a 19-year-old woman who crashed into a parked car on Opoho Rd at around 4am, allegedly driving at 65kmh in a 50kmh zone. She recorded a breath alcohol level of 1037mcg and was summoned to appear in court next Thursday on charges of drink driving and careless driving.
