The Republican Party finds itself in a predicament.

Since the tumultuous election year of 2016, their ability to secure victories has been heavily reliant on the presence of Donald Trump on the ballot.

And that much-hyped red wave of 2022?

Surprise! It turned out to be more of a ripple.

Throughout the midterm elections, the GOP confidently predicted a sweeping red wave amidst the Biden presidency’s midpoint.

Yet, the anticipated wave never materialized. Republicans did manage to secure a House majority, largely thanks to Governor Ron DeSantis’s strategic gerrymandering in Florida. Meanwhile, Democrats found themselves in a quagmire over redistricting disputes in New York, resulting in losses of several House seats.

In essence, the Republicans eked out a House majority in 2022, a modest improvement compared to the 41 seats they relinquished during the Trump-fueled 2018 midterm elections. They achieved a notable victory in Virginia in 2021, but this hardly represented a nationwide trend, as Democrats triumphed in many other areas.

The Republican struggle to thrive without Trump reached new depths in 2025.

The party faced defeats across both red and blue states, delivering a clear message to Trump and his supporters. Yet, the GOP seems intent on burying its head in the sand.

In a recent display of frustration, Trump unleashed a tirade directed at Senate Republicans, urging them to eliminate the filibuster and suppress voter participation in future elections. In the midst of this chaos, Speaker Mike Johnson believed he could galvanize the Republican base by resorting to fear tactics.

The irony? Johnson’s alarming rhetoric inadvertently made a compelling case for voting Democratic.

Check out Johnson’s enlightening message for Democrats below.
