Paramount+ continues to shine as one of the premier streaming services, consistently enhancing its film library month after month.

This October, viewers are in for a treat with a slew of must-see films added to the platform.

A highlight in the collection is Fight or Flight, featuring Josh Hartnett in an action-comedy that debuted earlier this year — make sure to catch it if you missed it in theaters. For those in the mood for something darker, consider Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal in one of his most chilling roles.

The resurgence of Josh Hartnett continues with Oppenheimer and Trap, now confidently rolling forward with Fight or Flight. Hartnett plays Lucas Reyes, a mercenary tasked with tracking down a wanted criminal on an international flight. However, the twist reveals that the plane is filled with assassins intent on killing both him and the criminal he is protecting, forcing them into an uneasy alliance.

Hartnett delivers a uniquely wild performance, less serious than dramatic, capturing the essence of a tightly-knit action-comedy. The absurd premise is executed in delightfully chaotic fashion, complete with intense action scenes and committed acting that makes Fight or Flight an absolute joyride.

Lou Bloom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is a socially awkward loner and petty thief who prowls the streets of Los Angeles at night, hunting for harrowing crime scene footage. His goal is to sell these chilling visuals to local news stations, pushing boundaries to capture the ultimate shot. Upon meeting a seasoned news director (Rene Russo), Blooms’ ambition spirals, leading him to extreme measures to fulfill her ratings demands.

Gyllenhaal’s portrayal in Nightcrawler is celebrated for its depth — he captures the morally void and sociopathic character of Bloom with disturbing precision, and the film (nominated for an Oscar for its screenplay) serves as a darkly thrilling critique of media’s ethical decay.

Amy Adams plays Louise Banks, a linguist drawn into a pivotal global event — the arrival of extraterrestrial beings. Directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune), Arrival offers a poignant sci-fi exploration of love, grief, and the complexities of time.

As tensions threaten to escalate into war following the Heptapods’ arrival, Banks embarks on a race against time to decode the aliens’ language and discover their intentions. With the help of Colonel Weber (Forest Whitaker) and physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), they strive to unlock the meaning behind the Heptapods’ presence.

During the 1960s and 1970s, the elusive Zodiac Killer haunted the San Francisco area, randomly murdering unsuspecting victims. Cartoonist Robert Graysmith (Jake Gyllenhaal) becomes ensnared by the case, driven to decode the killer’s cryptic letters to newspapers like the San Francisco Chronicle, believing it may hold the key to stopping the killer. But will his fixation jeopardize his career and personal life?

Despite its initial box office underperformance in 2007, Zodiac has gained critical acclaim and is often cited as one of the finest films of the 21st century, a testament to David Fincher‘s skilled direction and the impressive ensemble, including Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, and Chloë Sevigny. Emulating real life, Zodiac navigates a thriller landscape without a neat resolution, echoing the haunting reality that some mysteries remain unsolved.

A young girl, Amanda McCready (Madeline O’Brien) goes missing, sparking a media frenzy as her mother, Helene (Amy Ryan), desperately appeals for her return on live television. Two Boston detectives, Patrick (Casey Affleck) and Angie (Michelle Monaghan), are assigned to the case but soon find that Amanda’s disappearance is tied to a dangerous drug dealer. With an abundance of suspects and scant clues, the detectives race against time to find the girl before it’s too late.

Released amid critical acclaim in 2007, Gone Baby Gone is a riveting crime thriller filled with tension and societal commentary. It impressively captures the essence of Boston city life, as director Ben Affleck expertly depicts the city’s rhythm. Ryan’s performance as Amanda’s troubled mother earned her an Oscar nomination, and the film concludes with a surprising twist that leaves viewers pondering long after the credits roll.

The Last Stop in Yuma County may not have achieved blockbuster status during its theatrical release, but it stands out as one of the most impressive neo-Westerns in recent years. Set during the 1970s amid a gas shortage, a knife salesman (Jim Cummings) finds himself trapped in a diner with a waitress, Charlotte (Jocelin Donahue), when a pair of armed robbers enter seeking fuel.

As the situation intensifies, the salesman must confront his limits and decide just how far he’ll go to ensure his survival and that of Charlotte while caught in dire circumstances.

The Last Stop in Yuma County is available for streaming on Paramount+.
